Family Self Sufficiency Program

The FSS program is a five year voluntary program that assists families in becoming more self sufficient and go off governmental assistance programs including TANF, Cash grants, Food stamps and housing assistance.

An escrow account is a benefit of the program.  When the family joins the FSS program a savings or escrow account is established.  The amount of rent can be either increased or decreased depending on the income,  but will be matched by H UD proportionately to the earned income and placed in the escrow account. The participant is required to seek and maintain employment or attend school or job training.  At the end of the 5 year contract the family is then awarded the escrow account which could be used to purchase a home.

This program is available to all Head of Households on Public Housing and the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher.
