Public Housing is a government subsidized program designed to assist in  providing decent, safe and sanitary housing for families of low to moderate income.  Public Housing assists families in becoming more self-sufficient and enables senior citizens and disabled persons to live independently in an independent environment.

 

The Housing Authority of the City of Pueblo has 901 units located throughout the city of Pueblo.  These units are owned and operated by the HACP.  The rental units consist of:

 

                1 Bedroom (Elderly)   -  232

                1 Bedroom  -   104

                2 Bedroom  -    212

                3 Bedroom  -    277

                4 Bedroom  -    58

                5 Bedroom  -    18

 

The PHA’s occupancy standards specify the minimum and maximum number of household members who will be permitted to occupy dwelling units of various sizes, depending on family size, composition and extenuating circumstances, such as the ages, sexes, and disabilities of household members.  

 

The Standards described below take into consideration the minimum number of occupants for admission .  Normally two persons will be assigned to each bedroom.

HOW TO APPLY

 

Persons interested in applying for Public Housing may do so either by completing an application on line,  or at our facility listed below.

 

Applications are at 1414 N Santa Fe – 10th , Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM.  Applicants must be 18 years of age to apply.

Information needed:

 

1.       Picture ID’s for anyone 18 years of age or older on the application

2.       Proof of all income coming into the household.

a.      Earning Statements

b.      Bank Statements

c.       IRS Forms

d.      Award Letters from government agencies

                 1.  Social Security

                 2.  SSI

                 3.  AND

                 4.  Old Age Pension

e.      Unemployment benefit letter

f.        Court records such as real estate

g.      Child Support

 

3.      Social Security Cards of all family members

4.      Birth Certificates of all family members

5.      Rental History or Professional Character Reference Letters

 

Senior (62 and older) applications are also taken Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

 

 Families may contact the PHA 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday at 719-544-6230 to check on wait list status.

 

Each applicant’s name will be placed on the PHA’s Waiting list according to date and time and any applicable preferences.

 

It is important that the PHA be kept informed of any address, income or family size changes.  If we cannot contact you based on information provided, your application with us will be removed from our wait list.

 

 

 

Privacy Policy

It is also the PHA’s policy to guard the privacy of individual applicants and residents in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974, and to unsure the protection of those individuals’ records maintained by the PHA.    

 

BASIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

The PHA will determine whether an applicant for low-rent housing program qualifies as a family, is income eligible, has disclosed and verified Social Security Numbers, is a U.S. Citizen or National or meets eligible non-citizen status and has no history of drugs/alcohol abuse and record of violent crime.

 

Criminal History

The Department of Housing & Urban Development requires that we conduct background checks for our Public Housing Program.

 

The Housing Authority of the City of Pueblo conducts a complete CBI check on all applicants 18 years of age and older.

 

Federal regulations mandate that we cannot house any person required to register as a Sex Offender.

 

 

Income Eligibility for Admission

A family’s annual income, at the time of admission, may not exceed the income limits established by HUD and published in the Federal Register applicable to the PHA’s jurisdiction.

Rental Fees/Security Deposits

 

Total Tenant Payment is determined by 30% of the families monthly adjusted income.

 

Flat Rents are determined on unit size and like rents, in fair market rent. 

 

Rent and deposits are made upon occupancy.  Pet deposits are paid in full prior to the pet being brought into the unit.
